Oman is set to develop a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) train with a capacity of 3.8 million metric tonnes per annum at the Qalhat Industrial Complex, increasing the nation's total LNG production capacity to 15.2 million metric tonnes annually. This strategic initiative aims to enhance Oman’s LNG export capabilities and respond to the growing global demand for clean energy, with the project expected to be operational by 2029. The government is currently finalizing the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study, which will facilitate the final investment decision. Minister of Energy and Minerals, Eng. Salem Al Aufi, emphasized that this addition is crucial for solidifying Oman's status as a leading LNG producer. The project reflects Oman's commitment to energy security and maximizing the utilization of its natural gas resources. Overall, the new LNG train is part of a broader strategy to diversify the economy and ensure long-term sustainability.
