Coast Guard suspends search for 3 missing boaters after fatal Florida capsizing

The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for three missing boaters, including two children, after their boat capsized on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida, Friday evening. The incident, which occurred near Goat Island, resulted in one death, while four individuals were rescued from the overturned vessel. The search lasted 17 hours, covering over 270 square miles, but no additional victims were found. Lt. Cmdr. Barton Nanney expressed condolences to the families of those missing, noting that the decision to suspend search efforts was not taken lightly. The cause of the capsizing is currently under investigation, with various agencies, including the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, involved in the response efforts. Rescuers indicated that none of the passengers were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.
