HBO's The Penguin Wins Nine Primetime Emmy Awards
The HBO limited series The Penguin, set in Matt Reeves' The Batman universe, achieved significant success at the 2025 Emmy Awards with a total of nine wins, including one major acting award. Cristin Milioti won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role as Sofia Falcone, joining the ranks of acclaimed actors who have portrayed DC villains. Although Colin Farrell, who stars as Oz Cobb/The Penguin, did not win Outstanding Lead Actor, the series excelled in multiple technical categories such as Best Original Score, Sound Mixing and Editing, Prosthetic Makeup, Special Visual Effects, Contemporary Makeup, Costumes, and Hairstyling. The show also made history as the first Star Wars-related series to win a Primetime Emmy outside of Creative Arts, with Dan Gilroy winning for Outstanding Writing for Andor's second season, episode nine. Farrell is confirmed to return as The Penguin in the upcoming The Batman - Part II, alongside other main cast members. The series is praised for its artistry, emotional depth, and production quality, solidifying its place as a standout superhero spinoff.
