Mao Saigo wins first major at Chevron Championship playoff

Mao Saigo of Japan captured her first LPGA Tour victory and major title by winning the 2025 Chevron Championship after a dramatic five-way playoff at The Club at Carlton Woods in Texas. Saigo, last season's rookie of the year, clinched the win by sinking a three-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole, outlasting Hyo Joo Kim, Ruoning Yin, Ariya Jutanugarn, and Lindy Duncan, who all finished tied at seven-under-par. Saigo's composure under pressure was evident as she birdied the 18th in regulation to force the playoff and then prevailed after her competitors missed crucial birdie attempts. The win makes her the first Japanese player to take the Chevron Championship and marks a career milestone following several close finishes last year.
