Black History Art Initiatives in Detroit and DeKalb County

Local Detroit students are being taught about Black history in a course called Black Social and Political Thought at Wayne State University. The exhibit Blessed by the Ancestors at Beatnik Bob's in St. Louis showcases art by Black artists. The 1001 Woodward Ave. building is hosting Celebrating Black Artists, an exhibition featuring artwork by local students and non-students. Arts in Action shares the stories of Black DeKalb County residents by using art to teach history. The initiative aims to change the narrative of local history to be more inclusive and honest.
