Nvidia, Lucid, Uber, Nuro Advance Robotaxi Plans
Lucid said it will adopt NVIDIA’s Drive AV stack — including dual Drive AGX Thor units, DriveOS and a multi‑sensor architecture — to move from enhanced L2+ features toward Level 4 autonomy, though it gave no consumer launch date. Stellantis has a non‑binding memorandum of understanding with NVIDIA, Uber and Foxconn to integrate NVIDIA DRIVE AV into its K0 and STLA Small platforms for robotaxi production, targeting about 2028 with an initial Uber fleet plan of roughly 5,000 vehicles. Separately, Uber plans to deploy a premium robotaxi service in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2026 using Lucid Gravity SUVs outfitted with Nuro’s Level‑4 Nuro Driver, and an engineering test fleet of over 100 vehicles is already in supervised on‑road development. Uber has invested roughly $300 million in Lucid and committed to buying at least 20,000 Lucid vehicles over six years. Partners emphasize safety validation, redundancy, extensive simulation, closed‑course and supervised testing and regulatory engagement, but past recalls, technology challenges and Lucid’s weak financials mean safety, execution and profitability remain key risks.
