Atlanta Man's U.S. Marshals Arrest for Arkansas Murder

Darius Simmons, a 30-year-old Atlanta man, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in connection with the murder of German Portillo-Batres. Portillo-Batres, 59, was found deceased on January 4, 2025, at an Interstate 40 rest area near Ozark, Arkansas. Simmons faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, theft of property, and failure to provide information of an accident involving injury. The arrest came after the Ozark Police Department requested assistance from the Arkansas State Police's Criminal Investigation Division, which led to felony warrants being issued based on the investigation. Simmons' extradition to Arkansas is currently pending.
