Michigan AG orders Texas company to cease deceptive Mackinac Island ticket websites
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has issued a cease and desist order to MTVRS, LLC, a Texas company, demanding it take down or alter two websites accused of misleading consumers into purchasing unofficial tickets for Mackinac Island attractions. The company’s sites, fortmackinactickets.com and mackinacticketing.com, allegedly mimic official sites for Fort Mackinac and Shepler’s Ferry, using misleading logos and copying schedule information, while charging inflated prices and additional fees. Although disclaimers were present, they were reportedly buried deep within the pages, failing to meet Michigan Consumer Protection Act standards. Visitors have reportedly arrived at attractions with only invalid confirmation emails from MTVRS, unable to gain entry. Nessel's office warned that failure to comply by October 6 could result in litigation and civil fines under the state law. The Attorney General emphasized her commitment to protecting Michigan residents and visitors from deceptive business practices exploiting popular tourist sites.
