Former Scots Teacher Jailed Nine Years for Abuse of 11 Boys Across Multiple Schools

William Bain, a former physics teacher aged 72, has been jailed for nine years for sexually abusing 11 boys across three private schools in Scotland between 1978 and 1999. Bain preyed on vulnerable pupils, including one who sought his help due to bullying and another described as isolated and homesick. The abuse took place in various settings such as detention sessions, tutoring, the physics laboratory, a photography club, rugby training, hill walking trips, and even Bain's private flat on school grounds. Bain had previously served a six-and-a-half-year sentence for similar offenses against five boys and was released in 2020 before being convicted again following new evidence presented at the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry. Prosecutors highlighted the long-lasting trauma inflicted on the victims, some of whom have blocked out memories of the abuse. The prosecution emphasized that Bain exploited his position of trust and urged others affected by similar crimes to come forward for justice and support.
