A couple in Satara, Maharashtra, has been arrested for fraudulently filing 30 applications under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, a scheme aimed at providing financial support to underprivileged women. Ganesh Sanjay Ghadge and Pratiksha Popat Jadhav used multiple Aadhaar cards, including those of relatives and random individuals sourced online, to submit their applications, directing the payouts to Jadhav's bank account. This fraudulent activity was uncovered following a complaint by a woman from Panvel, prompting a police investigation that confirmed the misuse of various Aadhaar numbers. The couple faces several charges under the Indian Penal Code and has been remanded in police custody. The scheme, launched by the Eknath Shinde-led government, offers ₹1,500 per month to eligible women, with an annual income cap of ₹2.5 lakh. Due to high demand, the application deadline has been extended to September 30, 2024.
