Walgreens Plans to Close 1,200 Stores Nationwide

Walgreens is set to close multiple stores across the United States as part of its strategy to shutter 1,200 locations over the next three years due to financial pressures. In Sacramento, the company will close its Carmichael store on April 30, citing regulatory and reimbursement challenges that impact its operational costs. Similarly, a St. Louis store in the Ellendale neighborhood will close on April 21, with customers' prescriptions being transferred to nearby locations. In Waterbury, Connecticut, a Walgreens on Meriden Road will also close on April 22, with affected customers receiving notifications about prescription transfers. The company's spokesperson emphasized that while these decisions are difficult, they are necessary to stabilize the business and continue serving communities effectively. Walgreens aims to redeploy most employees from the closing stores to minimize disruption.
