British Conman Robert Hendy-Freegard Faces Trial for Injuring French Police

Robert Hendy-Freegard, a British conman featured in Netflix's 'The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman', appeared in a French court charged with injuring two police officers during an escape attempt in August 2022. Convicted in 2005 for kidnapping and fraud, he was sentenced to life in prison but had his kidnapping conviction overturned in 2009. During the incident, Hendy-Freegard allegedly rammed his car into the officers, resulting in significant injuries that required time off work. He had been living under a false identity in France and breeding dogs illegally when police arrived to inspect his kennel. Prosecutors are seeking a seven-year prison sentence, highlighting the violent nature of the escape attempt. If convicted, Hendy-Freegard could face up to 10 years in prison for the assault on the officers.
