PWHL Plans Expansion and International Games

The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) is set to expand by adding two new teams as early as the 2025-26 season. Announced by Amy Scheer, the league's Senior Vice President of Business Operations, the process will begin with requests for proposals from potential markets in the US and Canada, including cities like Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Quebec City. The league, which launched in January 2024 with six teams, aims to build on its success and further grow its fan base. Expansion discussions were initially tempered, but interest has grown following successful neutral site games. The league's upcoming second season will feature an expanded schedule, with each team playing 30 games. The PWHL is also considering international games in Europe, highlighting its broader expansion ambitions.
