Paul Mescal Cast as Paul McCartney in Four-Part Beatles Biopic Set for 2028 Release

Paul Mescal is gaining acclaim for his role as William Shakespeare in the historical drama film Hamnet, which has received a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes following its premiere at the 52nd Telluride Film Festival. Directed by Chloé Zhao and based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel, the film explores Shakespeare's family life after the death of his son and is set for a limited U.S. release in November 2025. Beyond Hamnet, Mescal is preparing to portray Paul McCartney in a four-part Beatles biopic directed by Sam Mendes, with the films scheduled for release in April 2028. Mescal has met McCartney, whom he described as an "extraordinary man," and confirmed that he will perform his own singing in the films. The Beatles project will feature Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, with each film focusing on a different band member’s perspective. Mendes has described the series as the "first bingeable theatrical experience," highlighting the unique storytelling approach and the band's significant cultural impact.
