UK Councils Targeted in DDoS Cyberattack

Exeter City Council and multiple other local authorities across the UK have been targeted in a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) cyberattack by a group called NoName057(16). The attack, which overwhelms websites with excessive traffic, has affected councils including Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole, and Medway. Portsmouth City Council confirmed their website was offline due to the attack but assured that no council services or user data were compromised. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has issued guidance to help these councils manage the disruptions caused by such attacks. While some councils experienced temporary outages, others reported swift recovery, minimizing the impact. Authorities are remaining vigilant and monitoring their systems closely to prevent future incidents.
