Two Men Accused of Murdering Prison Officer in Revenge Attack

Elias Morgan and Anthony Cleary stand accused of murdering prison officer Lenny Scott in a revenge attack after Scott exposed an illicit relationship involving Morgan at HMP Altcourse. Morgan allegedly shot Scott six times outside a gym in Skelmersdale in February 2024, following threats made after Scott refused a £1,500 bribe not to report a phone containing evidence. Cleary is accused of assisting Morgan by providing a van and bike used in the attack. Both defendants deny the charges, with Cleary also denying a manslaughter charge. Prosecutor Alex Leach KC presented evidence including CCTV, ANPR footage, and cell site data, showing continued contact between the two men, including images of them together at Glastonbury Festival in June 2023, shortly after Morgan pleaded not guilty to possession of the unauthorized phone. Telematics data revealed Morgan's vehicle was in Spain for an extended period, adding to the timeline of events under scrutiny in the trial.
