Australia Launches Largest Renewable Energy Tender

Australia has launched its largest renewable energy tender, selecting 19 projects that will add 6.4 gigawatts of capacity, enough to power over 3 million homes. The selected projects, which include solar, wind, and battery technologies, aim to support the government’s goal of achieving 32 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030. Notably, South Australia is on track to become the first gigawatt-scale grid to reach 100% net renewables by 2027, bolstered by two significant wind projects included in the tender. The projects are expected to generate substantial economic benefits, creating jobs and providing community development funding. Over 84 bids were submitted, indicating strong interest in transitioning from coal-fired power. This initiative is part of the federal government's Capacity Investment Scheme to stimulate renewable energy growth and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
