The incident occurred on February 17, 2023, a day before the scheduled funeral service, causing significant distress to his family. Both the funeral director and a makeup artist assured the family that the body was indeed Jenkins', despite visible discrepancies noted by the family, such as the absence of Jenkins' distinct medical conditions. After further disputes and a request to view the body again on the day of the funeral, the correct body was finally identified. The family is seeking compensation for the emotional distress they endured and have accused the funeral home of negligent infliction of emotional distress and mishandling of human remains. The lawsuit has been filed with the New Jersey Superior Court, demanding a trial by jury.
