Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood has announced a controversial new policy to publish the mugshots and videos of students arrested for making school shooting threats, as well as potentially releasing images of their parents. This decision follows the arrest of an 11-year-old boy who allegedly threatened to commit a mass shooting at Creekside Middle School, possessing a written list of targets and showing off weapons during a video chat. Sheriff Chitwood expressed his frustration over the rising number of hoaxes and the strain they place on law enforcement, stating, 'Since parents don’t want to raise your kids, I’m gonna start raising them.' The sheriff's office has already released the child's name and video of him being escorted into jail, despite the child's minor status. Chitwood emphasized that such threats have serious repercussions, costing taxpayers significant resources, and warned that further action could be taken against parents of offenders.
