India and Pakistan are grappling with the resurgence of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox), with India confirming its first case of the Clade 2 strain and Pakistan reporting its fifth case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The new Clade I Mpox strain, which transmits easily and has severe symptoms, particularly affects children and those with low immunity. Concerns have been raised in Pakistan after a patient went undetected at Islamabad airport, highlighting flaws in the screening process. The World Health Organization renamed monkeypox to mpox in 2022 to reduce stigma and misinformation about the disease. Both countries are implementing isolation and contact tracing protocols to manage the spread of the virus.
