Lyons Man Charged in USPS Worker’s 2024 Shooting

Angel Reyes, 24, of Lyons, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the March 3, 2024, fatal shooting of USPS worker Damian Dunning on Chicago's I-55 ramp to DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Dunning, 41, was found with a gunshot wound in a crashed vehicle and died later at the hospital. On February 7, 2025, Illinois State Police tried to stop a car with Reyes as a passenger; after a pursuit and short foot chase, Reyes was apprehended, and an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the car. Reyes initially faced charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a FOID card and resisting arrest. After further investigation, an arrest warrant for murder was issued, and Reyes was taken into custody by the FBI Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force. Dunning is remembered as a devoted family man and father.
