Iga Swiatek Reaches 300 Wins, Advances Cincinnati Third Round
Iga Swiatek marked a significant milestone by securing her 300th career victory at the Cincinnati Open, defeating Anastasia Potapova 6-1, 6-4 in just over an hour. This achievement places her as the player with the fewest matches to reach 300 WTA wins since Serena Williams in 2006, having done so in 372 matches. Swiatek, currently World No. 3, showed resilience by saving multiple break points in the second set despite some unforced errors and is now set to face Marta Kostyuk, against whom she has never lost. The reigning Wimbledon champion has demonstrated strong form this season, snapping a 13-month title drought and winning ten of her last eleven matches. She extended her remarkable streak of 64 consecutive wins in tournament opening rounds, tying Monica Seles for 29 straight opening-round victories in Tier I/WTA 1000 events. Swiatek has acknowledged relaxing more than she should have after her Wimbledon win but remains focused on continuing her strong performance at Cincinnati.
