Gonzaga Joins Pac-12 Conference as Eighth Member

Gonzaga University has officially joined the Pac-12 Conference, enhancing the league's basketball profile as it shifts towards rebuilding after recent conference realignment. The Bulldogs, known for their dominant men's basketball program, will start competing in the Pac-12 on July 1, 2026, becoming the eighth member alongside several other schools from the Mountain West. Despite this addition, the Pac-12 still lacks the necessary eight football-playing members to regain its status as a Power 5 conference, as Gonzaga does not field a football team. Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould has expressed the need for further expansion to secure a solid football presence for the conference's future. The move is seen as beneficial for Gonzaga, not only improving its competitive landscape but also aiding in student recruitment and enrollment efforts.
