Ireland Plans Medical Evacuation for Gaza Children

The Irish government is set to approve a plan to bring approximately 30 children from Gaza to Ireland for medical treatment, as proposed by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly. The initiative follows extensive collaboration with the Irish Red Cross and various government departments and aims to provide care for children suffering from severe medical conditions, such as cancer and haemodialysis, while excluding orthopaedic cases to avoid impacting local surgery waitlists. An advance medical team will assess the children's health before their evacuation, with the EU facilitating their transport to Ireland. Once in Ireland, the children will be accommodated with a carer in homes owned by healthcare workers, and will receive necessary medical care through state agencies. This plan is highlighted amid ongoing calls from Taoiseach Simon Harris for greater international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
