The patches, featuring Mays' No. 24 and Grote's No. 15, were unveiled during the Mets' game against the Houston Astros. This tribute follows an already existing patch for Bud Harrelson, another Mets Hall of Famer who died in January. Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen expressed their grief over losing these iconic players and emphasized their lasting legacies. Both families of the players appreciated the gesture, highlighting the deep connection and impact these athletes had on the team and New York City.
