Pillowcase Rapist Hubbart Set for Release

Christopher Hubbart, known as the 'Pillowcase Rapist' for his method of muffling victims' screams, is set to be released from a California state hospital to Los Angeles County, sparking widespread outrage. Hubbart admitted to sexually assaulting around 100 women and was first convicted in 1972. Despite strong objections from local officials and residents, a Santa Clara County judge approved his conditional release in March 2023. The Department of State Hospitals has recommended his placement in the Antelope Valley. Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón has condemned the decision, citing the area's limited resources and the potential threat to community safety. A court hearing on October 1 will finalize his placement.
