Man Killed Toddler Seriously Injured Joliet Semi Crash
A fatal crash occurred in Joliet involving a Volvo semi and a Dodge Dart, resulting in the death of the Dodge driver and serious injury to a 2-year-old boy. The semi, driven by a 58-year-old man from Orland Park, was attempting a left turn onto northbound Route 53 when it crossed into the path of the Dodge Dart traveling south, causing the Dodge to collide with and become lodged beneath the trailer. The Dodge driver, a 40-year-old man from Wilmington, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the toddler, secured in a child safety seat in the back of the car, was extricated and transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in serious condition. The crash led to the closure of the roadway for several hours for investigation and reconstruction. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and have requested any witnesses or those with video footage to contact the Joliet Police Department. The Will County Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and identify the deceased driver.
