Broadcaster Bruce DuMont, Museum Founder, Dies at 81
Bruce DuMont, a revered Chicago broadcaster and founder of the Museum of Broadcast Communications, died at age 81 due to cancer complications. He launched the influential political talk show "Beyond the Beltway," which aired nationally for decades, starting from its origins as "Inside Politics" in 1980. DuMont was instrumental in creating WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" and had a long career in radio and television production, including roles at WGN Radio and WBBM-TV. The Museum of Broadcast Communications, founded by DuMont in 1987, became a key cultural institution preserving broadcast history, housing the Radio Hall of Fame. Despite a brief political run in 1978, DuMont dedicated most of his life to journalism and media preservation, earning praise for his passion and dedication. His family requests donations to the Museum of Broadcast Communications or Columbia College in his honor.
