Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Hits San Jose, Puntarenas Costa Rica
On July 6, 2025, several seismic events were reported near San José and Alajuela, Costa Rica. The largest confirmed earthquake was a magnitude 4.7 quake near San José at a depth of approximately 44 km, felt as light shaking by residents in multiple nearby towns including San Jose, San Miguel, and Parrita, with no significant damage reported. Additionally, a smaller magnitude 2.7 earthquake occurred north of Alajuela at a depth of 102 km, which was unlikely to be felt by many due to its depth. Two other unconfirmed seismic-like events were reported near San Isidro and San José, but their magnitudes and depths remain unspecified pending further data. Citizen reports detailed experiences of light to weak shaking lasting a few seconds across various locations, confirming the impact of the 4.7 magnitude quake. Authorities and seismic monitoring services continue to refine data and encourage residents to report any felt tremors through official channels.
