Thierry, who lost her primary election to Lauren Simmons, stated that she can no longer support the party's policies, which she claims have become radical and out of touch with American values. In her statement, she expressed that the Democratic Party no longer represents the ideals she once supported, highlighting her opposition to laws promoting gender transition care for minors. Thierry's defection increases Republican representation in the Texas House to 87 members, although she will not return to the legislature until 2025. Following her switch, she announced her new role as director of political strategy for an international anti-trans policy group. Governor Greg Abbott welcomed her to the GOP, emphasizing a shared commitment to protecting Texas children.
