Driver Arrested in Fatal San Jose Pedestrian Crash
A 54-year-old man named Hector Cruz was killed in San Jose after being struck by a 2014 white Acura SUV driven by a suspected DUI driver late Sunday night. The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. near Lincoln Avenue and Lonus Road, where Cruz was crossing the street outside of marked crosswalks. The driver fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after and arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail. This event marks San Jose's second fatal traffic incident of 2025. In a separate case, a 32-year-old man was arrested in Manhattan Beach for a hit-and-run that resulted in one death and another serious injury, with police continuing to investigate the collision. The deceased victim’s identity in the Manhattan Beach case is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
