Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon: The Director's Cut' has been released on Apple TV+, adding 48 minutes of previously unseen footage to the original film. This extended version, which now runs 205 minutes, offers deeper insights into Napoleon's life and his tumultuous relationship with Josephine, portrayed by Vanessa Kirby, while also featuring the previously unreleased Battle of Marengo scene. The film, which was initially released theatrically in November and garnered three Academy Award nominations, explores Napoleon's rise to power and his eventual downfall. The director's cut aims to enhance the storytelling and critical reception, given Scott's history of improving his films through re-cuts. Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the French emperor, with the film being produced by Apple Studios and Scott Free Productions.
