Delaware Teacher Charged with Sexual Solicitation of Student

Ricardo Vila, a 39-year-old physical education teacher at George Read Middle School in Delaware, has been arrested and faces 17 felony charges, including multiple counts of Sexual Solicitation of a Child and Sexual Abuse of a Child by a Person in a Position of Trust. The charges stem from an investigation revealing that Vila sent sexually explicit messages to an 8th-grade student through text and social media. Attorney General Kathy Jennings emphasized the heinous nature of such crimes, especially when committed by those in trusted positions. The Colonial School District has confirmed its cooperation with law enforcement and stated that Vila has not been in contact with students since the initial report. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward as they have not identified any other victims at this time. Vila is currently being held on $600,000 bail.
