Global Football Transfers Hit Record $2.35B in January 2025

In January 2025, global soccer clubs set a record by spending $2.35 billion on international transfers, marking a nearly 58% increase from the previous year, according to FIFA's International Transfer Snapshot. A total of 5,863 international transfers were completed, also a record high, with English clubs leading the spending at $621.6 million. Notably, Colombian forward Jhon Duran's transfer from Aston Villa to Al-Nassr for around $80 million was the most expensive deal of the month. The top five countries contributing to this spending included Germany, Italy, France, and Saudi Arabia. Women's soccer also saw a significant rise, with $5.8 million spent on transfers, a 180.6% increase from the previous record. English clubs dominated the women's transfer market as well, reflecting a broader trend of increased financial activity across both men's and women's soccer.
