Tyler Robinson Threatens Suicide After Father Confronts Him Over Charlie Kirk Shooting
Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused assassin of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, threatened to take his own life rather than surrender after his father confronted him with photos released by authorities. Robinson admitted to being the shooter but initially refused to turn himself in; his father, a veteran police officer, persuaded him to speak with their youth minister, a US Marshals Service fugitive task force officer, who then helped facilitate Robinson's arrest by the FBI. Robinson was charged with aggravated murder and is believed to have acted alone in the targeted shooting that occurred at Utah Valley University during a Turning Point USA event. Family members indicated that Robinson had become increasingly political and hostile toward conservative figures, including Kirk, whom he criticized in recent weeks. Utah Governor Spencer Cox and President Donald Trump confirmed Robinson’s arrest, with Trump calling it a “significant breakthrough” in what he described as a “political assassination.” The shooting has heightened concerns about political violence, as authorities cited surveillance footage, bullet casings, and digital evidence linking Robinson to the crime.
