High School Volleyball: Nationwide Postseason Updates
Postseason high-school volleyball coverage across multiple states has new developments: West Virginia's WVSSAC replaced sectional play with double-elimination regional brackets (four teams advance per region in Class AAAA, two in other classes) and set the state tournament for Nov. 11–13 in Charleston. California's Southern Section posted widespread playoff results across Divisions 1–7, while South Carolina and Tennessee saw teams such as Wando, Oceanside Collegiate, Philip Simmons, Bishop England, Blackman and Science Hill advance in recent rounds. In Ohio, district finals will send winners to Division II, IV and VI regional semifinals Oct. 29–30, with programs chasing long-awaited regional berths — North aiming for its first regional since 1982, Perry since 1988, and West Geauga in its first district title game. Locally, Amherst (on an 11‑wins‑in‑13 surge) meets Walsh Jesuit with the victor advancing to Streetsboro, and Avon (ranked No. 3) seeks a third straight district title against Eastlake North. North Dakota's AP polls shuffled top spots across classes — Carrington rose to No. 2 in Class A, Valley City fell to No. 5, South Prairie‑Max remained No. 1, Century led Class AA, and Linton‑Hazelton/Moffit/Braddock moved atop Class B. At the collegiate level, Wisconsin sits at No. 12 in the NCAA's first in‑season top‑16 rankings (No. 15 in RPI), and coach Kelly Sheffield said team health and upcoming matches against five ranked opponents will be key to improving the Badgers' postseason resume and hosting hopes.
