Rays Place All-Star Brandon Lowe on 10-Day IL with Oblique Injury, Recall Curtis Mead

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed second baseman Brandon Lowe on the 10-day injured list due to left oblique tightness, retroactive to July 8, after he sustained the injury during a game against the Minnesota Twins. Lowe, a two-time All-Star, had been selected for the All-Star Game but was replaced on the roster due to the injury, marking the second time he has missed the Midsummer Classic despite being named an All-Star. At the time of his injury, Lowe was having a standout season, batting .272 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs, leading among American League second basemen. The Rays recalled infielder Curtis Mead from Triple-A Durham to provide depth at second base, alongside Jose Caballero and Taylor Walls. Lowe plans to return when eligible on July 18 but may require additional recovery time, given the nature of his injury. The Rays are currently battling for a playoff spot, making Lowe’s absence a significant challenge for the team.
