The fire began around 1 p.m., with reports indicating a moderate to dangerous rate of spread; however, no structures were threatened at that time. This incident follows a particularly destructive fire season in Butte County, which has already seen significant damage from previous blazes, including the Park Fire. Meanwhile, a separate wildfire called the Gil Fire has been reported in Sonoma County, also without a known cause.
