India Advances Manufacturing and AI Initiatives

In 2024, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched several initiatives to enhance the nation's digital landscape, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor manufacturing. A notable investment of Rs91,526 crore was approved for Tata Electronics to establish a Semiconductor Fab facility in partnership with Taiwan's PSMC, capable of producing 50,000 wafer starts per month. Additionally, Tata Electronics and CG Power received approvals for OSAT facilities, aiming for substantial daily production capacities. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran highlighted the potential for a 'new manufacturing golden age' in India, driven by geopolitical shifts favoring local manufacturing and projected job creation. Amid these developments, the IndiaAI Mission aims to consolidate AI resources through initiatives like the National AI Portal and AIRAWAT, bolstering the country's AI capabilities. The upcoming IMTEX 2025 exhibition will showcase advancements in the machine tool industry, further reflecting India's manufacturing evolution.
