Florida Wisconsin Enact Laws Banning AI-Generated Nonconsensual Nude Images
New laws in Wisconsin and Florida have been enacted to prohibit the creation and distribution of AI-generated nude or sexual images of individuals without their consent. Wisconsin's bipartisan bill, signed by Governor Tony Evers, criminalizes posting, publishing, or exhibiting synthetic intimate representations with intent to harass or intimidate and bans making AI images without consent. Similarly, Florida's sweeping law makes producing sexual images via AI or similar technologies illegal without permission and allows victims to sue perpetrators in civil court. The Florida law came shortly after the arrest of Lucius William Martin, accused of using AI to create nude images of minors by digitally removing their clothing from social media photos. Both states are addressing the misuse of AI tools that can "nudify" photos, a concern highlighted by previous incidents involving celebrities like Taylor Swift. These legislative actions reflect growing efforts to combat the misuse of AI in creating non-consensual explicit imagery and protect individuals' privacy rights.
