Jinkx Monsoon Stars in Pirates! The Penzance Musical

The Roundabout Theatre Company has announced a new jazz-infused adaptation of Gilbert and Sullivan's classic operetta titled 'Pirates! The Penzance Musical,' set to begin previews on April 4, 2025, with an official opening on April 24. Starring Jinkx Monsoon as Ruth, alongside Ramin Karimloo as the Pirate King and David Hyde Pierce as W.S. Gilbert/Major General Stanley, this reimagined production will run through June 22. Directed by Scott Ellis, the adaptation by Rupert Holmes relocates the story to New Orleans and incorporates new Caribbean-style orchestrations. The design team features Tony Award winners including David Rockwell and Linda Cho. Monsoon, known for winning two seasons of 'RuPaul's Drag Race,' expressed enthusiasm about taking on the role from a fresh perspective, highlighting the chance to revitalize a classic. Additional cast members include Nicholas Barasch, Preston Truman Boyd, and Samantha Williams.
