Former EMU Players Refuse NCAA Betting Probe

The NCAA’s Division I Committee on Infractions says former Eastern Michigan players Jalin Billingsley, Da’Sean Nelson and Jalen Terry refused to cooperate with an investigation into suspected sports‑betting irregularities from the 2024–25 season. Enforcement staff were alerted by multiple integrity monitoring services to suspicious first‑half betting on EMU’s Jan. 14 loss at Central Michigan and abnormal wagering on other games, and the players’ phones were imaged by an enforcement vendor on Jan. 29 after consultation with counsel. After the season concluded in March, the players’ attorneys told the NCAA the athletes would not participate and instructed the vendor to destroy the images, which the NCAA said prevented a determination of whether betting violations occurred and violated its cooperation rules. The committee warned that refusal to cooperate can carry severe penalties including permanent loss of eligibility, although all three were seniors and have no collegiate eligibility remaining. Terry led EMU in scoring (16.6 ppg) in 2024–25, Nelson averaged about 16.1 ppg and Billingsley about 10.5 ppg; none of the players could be reached for comment.
