A22 Promoters Seek Approval for Unify League

The promoters of the European Super League, now rebranded as the 'Unity League', have approached UEFA and FIFA to seek official recognition for their new competition. A22, the company behind the proposal, argues that UEFA previously abused its dominant position in blocking the original league's formation in 2021, a point supported by a European Court of Justice ruling last December. The revised plan features a qualification system based on annual domestic league performance and aims to address issues such as rising subscription costs and inadequate investment in women's football. A22's proposal consists of a 96-club competition divided into four leagues, promoting inclusivity and meritocracy. Despite the previous backlash that led many clubs to withdraw from the original Super League, A22 remains hopeful that the new proposal will gain traction. UEFA has stated that its rules have been updated to comply with EU law since the ECJ ruling.
