One Dead in Escondido Train-Truck Collision
Walter Robbins, an 86-year-old man from San Marcos, died after his pickup truck was hit by a Sprinter train at the intersection of Enterprise Street and West Mission Road in Escondido, California. The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. when Robbins drove past a lowered rail-crossing gate and stopped on the tracks for unknown reasons before being struck by the eastbound train. Emergency responders pronounced Robbins dead at the scene, and no injuries were reported among the train passengers or crew. The crash led to the cancellation of the eastbound 2:03 p.m. SPRINTER train and delays of 30 to 60 minutes for other services. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department and other authorities were present at the scene to manage the situation. Investigations are ongoing to understand the circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
