Gastonia Officer Charged with Animal Cruelty

Corporal Vincent Costner of the Gastonia Police Department was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty following an investigation that began after reports of neglect surfaced earlier this year. Authorities allege that Costner caused unjustifiable pain and suffering to a young Great Dane, which was found severely underweight and in need of medical care. The dog was ultimately placed with a rescue organization for treatment. Police Chief Trent Conard expressed deep disappointment over the incident, emphasizing that officers are held to the highest standards and that no one is above the law.
