Two Deadly Shootings Hit Grand Rapids Overnight

A fatal shooting occurred early Friday morning in Grand Rapids on the city's southeast side, where officers found 30-year-old Semaj James dead inside a residence on Cass Avenue Southeast. The Kent County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, and the Grand Rapids Police Department's Major Case Team is actively investigating. In a related but separate incident, a Grand Rapids man, Felipe Millan-Gomez, wanted for armed carjacking and kidnapping in Michigan, was fatally shot during a confrontation with Arkansas State Police following a multi-state manhunt. The Arkansas State Police and U.S. Marshals stopped Millan-Gomez, who brandished a weapon before being shot; an investigation into the use of force is ongoing. Michigan authorities continue to search for an accomplice linked to Millan-Gomez's crimes.
