Massachusetts Driver Dies in New Hampshire High-Speed Police Pursuit Crash

A Massachusetts man was killed early Sunday after a high-speed police pursuit on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire, state police said. Troopers attempted to stop a blue 2020 Honda Civic for speeding near Exit 12 around 12:51 a.m., but the driver, later identified as 20-year-old Benjamin Tapia Gately of Saugus, MA, failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle traveled erratically and reached speeds up to 120 mph before the driver attempted to take Exit 18, lost control, crossed the northbound on-ramp, went down an embankment and struck a tree. Gately was ejected from the car, was the sole occupant, and was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by troopers and first responders; Canterbury Fire and Rescue assisted on scene. The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact Sgt. Kenneth McGrath.
