Air India 787 Crashes Near Ahmedabad, Fatalities Reported
An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner (Flight AI171) crashed into the Meghani Nagar residential area near Ahmedabad airport just minutes after takeoff on June 12, 2025, killing at least 30-35 people, though the final death toll is still unconfirmed. The aircraft was carrying 242 people, including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals. The pilots issued a 'Mayday' distress call before losing contact, and the crash set off a massive fire and widespread panic in the area. Rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing, and all airport operations have been suspended. This is the first recorded crash involving a Boeing 787, according to the Aviation Safety Network. National leaders and officials are monitoring the situation, with investigations launched and support offered to affected families.
