WeRide Launches Shenzhen Level 4 Driverless Robobus Line

WeRide Inc has partnered with Shenzhen Bus Group to launch Shenzhen's first Level 4 fully driverless Robobus public transport line, the B888, operating in the busy Luohu District. The route, running between Luohu Port and MixC Market through central business and cultural landmarks, offers 30–35 minute rides and can be booked via the Shenzhen Bus Travel WeChat mini program. Equipped with over 20 sensors including LiDAR and HD cameras, the Robobus provides 360-degree perception up to 200 meters, accurately interpreting complex traffic signals and predicting movements of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians to navigate dense urban traffic safely. The system includes full redundancy in hardware and software to maximize safety, adjusts in real-time for passenger boarding without disrupting traffic, and successfully manages complex intersections that challenge human drivers. This launch coincides with Shenzhen’s 45th anniversary as China’s first Special Economic Zone and reflects the city’s broader push toward smart, sustainable transportation and intelligent vehicle network development. Despite facing industry challenges including investor pressure and evolving regulatory environments, WeRide continues to expand its autonomous mobility solutions globally, with operations in nearly 30 cities worldwide.
