Derry GAA Decides Against Rory Gallagher Reappointment

The Derry County Board previously ruled Gallagher out of consideration following allegations of domestic abuse made by his estranged wife, which he denies, and he stepped down just before the 2023 Ulster final. Although Gallagher’s barring order was lifted earlier this year, the backlash against his potential return remains significant, with prominent figures expressing opposition. Derry GAA has been without a manager since Mickey Harte's departure in July and is the only county in Ireland lacking a senior football manager. The ongoing search has seen several candidates decline the position, contributing to the board's current dilemma. As of now, the plans to revisit Gallagher's appointment have been abandoned, with no new recommendations set to be made at the upcoming executive meeting.
